Introducing ..... Dawn Calvin

Dawn Calvin

Welcome to our new, regular segment where we will interview club members in an endeavour to get to know them a little better.

Our first cab off the rank is Dawn Calvin.

1. How long have you been playing bridge?

I started with lessons which were run on a Saturday morning at Taree High School in 1996. So, I’ve been playing for 30 enjoyable years.

2. What is your best bridge memory?

When we bought our clubhouse in Pitt Street – it was great to have our own space and not have to set up and pack up every time we played. Also, travelling to Congresses with my good friend and Bridge partner, Barb Drury.

3. What is your worst memory?

Losing so many good friends and Bridge partners who have passed away over the years.

4. What is your Favourite Bridge convention?

Calling a slam and getting it!

5. Tell us something about yourself that we may not know?

In November 1988, my 21-year-old son disappeared on 65-foot yacht known as the "Patanella", just 5 nautical miles from Sydney Heads. It remains one of Australia’s greatest maritime mysteries. It still hurts every day, but you have to keep living, enjoy your beautiful family and friends and in my case, keep playing Bridge.

Through highs and lows, I’ve always enjoyed playing Bridge, as it keeps the mind active and you get to meet lots of great people.

6. Any final advice for new players?

Enjoy Bridge – have fun, be friendly and respect all players!

Thank you so much Dawn for sharing your words of wisdom with us all.
